Before there was Co-op Sauce, there was Co-op Image, a free arts and entrepreneurship organization that Mike Bancroft started with Chicago youth Before there was Co-op Sauce, there was Co-op Image, a free arts and entrepreneurship organization that Mike Bancroft started with Chicago youth.
Mike and the kids needed to raise funs to sustain the program, so in 2003, they got together to brew, bottle, and sell hot sauces to restaurants and at farmers’ markets.
The sauces turned into a local sensation and took off from there.
While still helping to support community arts programs, Co-op is now a legitimate business operating out of Sauce and Bread Kitchen.
What hasn’t changed is philosophy of crafting our sauces in small batches with hand-picked ingredients from Midwestern farmers and giving back to the community.
